Finally on my way back home along the Hudson waterfront, a final memorized glimpse of the sky as the sun as already disappeared for a while behind New Jersey skylines. My feet are blistery as my phone tells me that today I walked almost 12 miles....Good night New York!

Camminando | NYC, Summer Solstice Celebration at Socrates Sculpture Park

My axis mundi at this Summer Solstice was at Socrates Sculpture Park, in the art vibrant Long Island City.

The event, besides the many sculptural installation throughout the East River park, included a performance by musician Reggie Watts and a "Soul-stice" ritual celebration by spiritual healer Mama Donna.

And a beautiful sunset, of course....

Camminando | Summer Solstice at Sun Farm

The summer solstice in the Northern hemisphere marks the longest day and shortest night of the year.

The name solstice comes from the Latin "sol" (sun) and sistere (to stand still). It is the moment (happening twice a year) when the Sun's apparent path north or south reverts its direction.

At Sun Farm the sun rising and setting at the winter and summer solstices are defined by markers or frames. The Solstice Helix ---framing the sun setting at the summer solstice--- unfortunately was torn down by a major ice storm last winter.

This summer the sun setting approaching the Solstice has been recorded in reference to Working Pyramid, a new functional sculpture placed at the intersection between Noon Columns and Sun Axis.

Vernissages | NYC, No Longer Empty presents "Weaving In & Out"

The city is a fabric: similarly to the weaving of a tapestry, the urban texture of buildings and streets (solids and voids) intersects many layers of social realities, in the physical and emotional dynamic interactions of people and activities.

The collaborative exhibition "Weaving In & Out", presented by No Longer Empty, well captures the urban fabric, both literally and metaphorically; it is located in the ground raw floor of an East Harlem residential property called "Tapestry" ---the name could not have been more appropriate! The exhibition brings together many different media and themes connected ---or, to better say, woven--- by the idea of fabric as a spatial explorations in the relationship of the installations to the site as well as narrative. Three-dimensional installations based on found and ephemeral materials co-exist with video and large scale drawings as well as performances expanding from the exhibition space to the nearby streets.

Urban environmentalism is one the main themes of the exhibits which will be open to the public until August 2010.

NYC Web related community/industry is gathering this week for the 2010 edition of Internet Week New York, celebrating the flourishing Silicon Alley.

IWNY features an almost overwhelming schedule, filled with dozens of daily events and programs : at daytime an expo at the Metropolitan Pavilion at 125 W18 Street, conferences, panels, open houses of start-ups. A few snapshots from the Expo:
