New Year's Eve in La Habana

2018 has been an extremely challenging and dark year: spending NYE in La Habana represents change. What a better place to celebrate than in perhaps the last country where utopia is still alive?

José Martí International Airport
When entering the La Habana airport my first impression was to be teleported from the Miami airport, less than one-hour flight away, to a place several decades away. The modernist yet decadent, red panel roof spoke of a past splendor, reminiscent of a James Bond movie from the sixties. The time travel sensation expanded to a feeling of being in surreal world when arriving to La Habana. The fast taxis fleeting in no traffic roads transitioned from the airport to the city of Habana passing by Plaza de la Revolucion, where monumental celebrations of the effigies of Che Guevara and Fidel Castro are visible from a great distance. Then meet the grand splendid captivating almost hypnotic decadence of La Habana, absorbed by any type of blasting Latin sound.

I welcome 2019 as the year of the enlightened warrior!
