Vernissages NYC | Exit Art: Every Exit is an Entrance

It should actually be called a finissage, as the vernissage of the last exhibition of Exit Art one of the most influential art not for profit spaces in NYC.
Exit Art is closing in its 30th anniversary, less than year from the passing of Jeanette Ingberman, who co-founded this initially alternative art space with Papo Colo,  in 1982.
Exit Art  "supported and fostered a vibrant, interdisciplinary artistic community in New York, organizing over 200 exhibitions, events, festivals and programs featuring more than 2,500 artists. Consistently challenging social, political, aesthetic and curatorial norms, Exit Art has organized historical exhibitions; presented the work of young, emerging, under-recognized and mid-career artists; produced experimental theater and performance works; and organized national and international film and video programs. Committed early on to experimenting with the intersections of film, video, performance, music, publications, design and visual art, Exit Art remained steadfast in its mission to provide new possibilities and opportunities for both artists and audiences alike."

The exhibition is visual multimedia documentation of the 30 years activity of Exit Art; a more meaningful title could not have been chosen...

Vernissages NYC | Identity, Perception, Illusion: Michelangelo Pistoletto "Work"

Michelangelo Pistoletto, one of the major exponents of Arte Povera, has been working with mirrors since 1961 --- in many media and expressions, from paintings to performances.
Mirrors have a complex semantics, spanning from psychoanalytical readings to explorations of visual perceptions. The exhibition  Lavoro (Italian word for work) includes new work of Pistoletto, where mirrored surfaces become backgrounds for trompe-l'œil imagery of people and tools from the construction work environment. The viewer's identity becomes lost in perceptions of illusionary environments, where the gallery becomes transformed in several construction sites. A double illusion, not only for the 2d representation of trompe-l'œil becoming allusive of three-dimensionality, but also for the places recreated.

Events NYC, March 20 | VERNAL EQUINOX

Sun Rises    @  06:58 EDT
Sun Sets      @  19:05 EDT
Solar Noon  @  13:03 EDT

Vernal Equinox began today at 1:14 EDT, the time when the tilt of the Earth's axis is in a plane perpendicular to the plane defined by the center of the Sun and the Earth's equator. The term "equinox" is derived from
the Latin "aequus  nox" equal (night), as during the equinoxes night and day have equal length.

Let's celebrate spring in the rebirth of nature and return of light.
